Knowing that you need help is one thing. Knowing what kind of help you need can be another.
Some people may benefit from weekly therapy, while others may need more structured support. The important thing to know is that you don’t have to determine this on your own.
Start by Looking at How You’re Functioning
One of the best questions to ask yourself is:
“How are my symptoms affecting my everyday life?”
Consider whether you’re having difficulty:
Going to work or school
Maintaining relationships
Sleeping or eating normally
Managing responsibilities
Controlling your emotions
Participating in activities you usually enjoy
Staying safe or avoiding harmful behaviors
When symptoms begin interfering with daily functioning, it may be time to consider professional support.
What If Weekly Therapy Isn’t Enough?
Outpatient therapy can be a helpful option for people who need ongoing support while continuing their regular routines. SAI offers individual, family, and group therapy for children, adolescents, and adults.
Some individuals may benefit from a more structured level of care.
SAI’s Intensive Outpatient Programs provide additional therapeutic support beyond traditional weekly therapy. For adolescents, SAI’s IOP is designed to provide structured treatment while allowing teens to remain at home.
For adolescents who need 24/7 structured support, residential treatment may also be an option. SAI’s residential programs provide clinical support in a structured environment with therapy, family involvement, and skill-building.
You Don’t Have to Choose Alone
It’s completely okay to say:
“I know I need help, but I don’t know what kind.”
That’s where a mental health professional can help.
Your symptoms, history, daily functioning, goals, and support system can all help determine what level of care may be appropriate. Your needs can also change over time.
Asking for More Support Is Not a Setback
Needing additional support doesn’t mean you’re failing or that you’ve done something wrong.
Sometimes life circumstances change. Sometimes symptoms become more difficult to manage. And sometimes a different type of treatment is simply a better fit.
The goal is to find the support that meets you where you are.
